The 'Ber' months are here!

Sunrise from a slightly open window

I can't believe that the 'ber' months are here already. It's safe to say I'm relieved that September is here. I've not been dealing very well with how hot it's been and needed some cool air to relieve it. Now we are in my birthday month, I used to dread it but I'm ok with it these days. Now is also the time to prepare my garden for the temperature dropping this means either bark or mulch on the flower beds to help the plants (perennials) not die over winter. I still have yet to get some bordering for the flower beds which I will get around to as soon as I can.

wooden greenhouse

I mentioned before that I wanted another greenhouse, and James surprised me with an early birthday gift of one. I want to eventually get a bigger or taller one to replace my plastic/mental one to go along side it which I will do at a later date. The new one i have is adorable and perfect for my seed growing, it gets hotter inside of it than my other one which makes it the perfect environment over the colder months. I want to treat the wood with wood treatment so it can take the elements thrown at it. Planning on growing more plants over autumn and winter is my main agenda, you can most definitely grow flowers in the colder months still, I just need to get the right kind of plants!

I have done some research into September sowing. I have discovered I can plant some bulbs now, ready to come through for spring next year. I also collected all my grape hyacinth bulbs (I hope it was all of them) and planted them in pots, ready to come through next year. I love how bulb planting works; it saves on money, too. Cornflowers and my poppy seeds will be sown once some more of my annuals die off in my flower beds. If anything, the annuals are spreading and growing more now than ever. Salvias and hollyhocks can be planted in my greenhouse trays and hopefully survive over winter. Salivias are excellent for the bees. Oh, how could I forget? James added to my string of collections and bought me a string of hearts. She's so beautiful.

I think gardening keeps me very grounded and has been helping me occupy my mind. Our cat Gizzy became very poorly about a month ago. We rushed her to the vets and found out she has hyperthyroidism, which caused her to have a number of issues which are slowly getting better. She will be on medication for the rest of her life, though she may hate taking it, but it's what she needs to stay better. From her recent bloods, her thyroid went from 140 to 12, which is brilliant considering how poorly she's been. On top of that, she's gaining her weight back, and I'm very proud of her.

September also means Bake off is back, this is a perfect excuse to do our own bakes right? I think giant gooey cookies will go down a treat. We've already made cinnamon rolls, and they turned out beautifully. We were going to make my birthday cake, but James is treating me to one instead. I gave him a few options, and if you know me, you will know they are all pretty designs. Speaking of food, right now I'm addicted to raspberry and cream pink digestives, and I highly recommend them. I love that my birthday is halfway into September, it has a warm and cold mix of weather and means the leaves will slowly start to turn golden. I'm going to miss seeing the sun set and rise from my garden, it lights up my windows with beautiful colours.
