The weather has been so hit and miss, one minute it's pouring, the next minute it's scorching. Why is this a problem? I never know what to wear, and my garden either gets soaked or scorched, so I just can't win. Luckily, they thrive pretty well when we get heavy rain, especially the ones in pots. drainage holes will always save the day. Also, most silly people don't realise you don't water your plants in the middle of the day when it's roasting, or they will die off. Morning is usually best. Watering of an evening will bring out all the slugs and snails; no one wants that. I've learnt so much when it comes to gardening. Most people will find the information useless, but for me it's a nice way to make conversation. Did you know that when your poppy flowers die, you leave the flower heads to dry and harvest the seed? I did that with my Icelandic ones recently.

I don't have much to update on the garden front. It's thriving and growing beautifully with chillis, strawberries, tomatoes, sunflowers and lots more, and now we are looking into plants that will thrive for most of the year so the garden doesn't look like a sad mess in the autumn and winter months. James has also agreed to let me get a larger greenhouse, so I'm looking into something a bit more permanent that won't blow over in the wind. I recently treated myself to a Kindle after using our Kindle tablet for years. I needed a new one, and my 11th-gen adapts to the light outside so I can read my books a lot more easily in the sun. I've customised it to my own personality. It came out very cute and has started to get me to read more.

We started to make bread with yeast. I love sourdough; it's not to everyone's taste and can take a long time with the whole process. The recipe we use is a pretty basic one comes out perfect each time. We also had a crack at lemon drizzle cake. It turned out absolutely banging. I'm personally not a fan of lemon, yet I enjoyed this. Makes sense, right? The other month we had a go at coffee cake, another I'm not keen on. James loves it though. It turned out beautifully. A life of growing my own food, baking, gardening, reading and living my life to the fullest is all I really want, and we have managed to start achieving that. If anyone wants the recipes used for these bakes, just let me know and I can link them.

One last thing, if you see a bee struggling, don't be afraid to get a stick, flower, leaf or your own hand to pick it up and help it rest or get some sugar water. Don't use honey for this! Over the last couple of weeks, I've rescued 4 different bees that have been struggling. But beware, if they start giving you a high-five, it's their way of warning you they are threatened. They need our help. Be kind to nature.

When life gives you lemons, make lemon drizzle cake
